What to know: The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is the world’s second largest economy after the United States. It is the world’s fastest-growing major economy, with growth rates averaging 10% over the past 30 years. China is also the largest exporter and second largest importer of goods in the world. The country’s per capita GDP (PPP) was 8,394 (International Monetary Fund, 90th in the world) in 2011. The provinces in the coastal regions of Chinatend to be more industrialized, while regions in the hinterland are less developed. China’s population in 2010 was 1.341 billion, and its expected to grow to 1.375 billion in 2015. In 2010, China’s unemployment rate stood at only 4.1 percent, decreasing 4.65 percent from the previous year and expected to decrease further to 4 percent in 2011. Forecasts for 2015 predict China’s unemployment rate to remain at 4 percent between 2011 to 2015
